Hi folk's this is Kevin Jones, i'm going to be speaking at the Los Angeles Urban League july 20, 2011
i will be talking to young people ages 13-24 on how to become a entreprenur, also i will tell them about my
experience in the field of business and give them tools and advice they can use in pursing their dream of being

an entrepreneur, the progam is call ( Biz institute for youth ) By making business both interesting and comprehensive, this program seeks to encourage its students to participate in their respective local economies and become productive members of the society at large. we have 40 students that will be in the class room they will develop or build on an idea for business that they are able to start and run as a young person.

Business in a Bucket will be featured as one of many products to be used to help empower our communities.
With the downturn of the economy, many people are looking for ways to make ends meet. Our youth are especially effected. Urges teens to sell detailing, not drugs

The inner-city is often characterized by its harsh truths. These include but aren’t limited to, its claim to poverty-stricken neighborhoods, spurts of violence and civil unrest, academic underachievement woes; and an unemployment rate that’s elevated far beyond “high enough.”

Adding insult to injury, city and state officials across the country seem to have accomplished little to set the wheels of change in proper motion for inner-city residents.

In spite of all those challenges, as the saying goes, “every cloud has a silver lining,” even ones as ominous as those above areas like South Central Los Angeles, Watts and Inglewood.

Kevin Jones, 40, likes to think of himself as that silver lining, when it comes to helping young teens beat the odds. The New Orleans native has created the concept Business in a Bucket, that he believes is among the resources that can provide teens with a quick and easy way to make money, despite America’s stressed economy. “It’s a starter kit by all means,” Jones cautioned. “But it’s more than enough car care product's to get working on a car.”

More specifically, the big blue bucket contains high-quality soap and wax, auto dressing applications, and standard washing and polishing rags—the essential materials needed to professionally detail a car.

Also included is Jones’ handbook, “The Owner’s Guide to Auto Detailing,” which illustrates the approach one should take when washing and detailing cars for profit. The book offers 58 car-maintenance tips in all, and includes this little-known fact in bold print: “Do not use dish soap to wash your car.” (It leaves streaks, notes Jones).

“I could have written a thick old book. But ain’t nobody gonna sit down and read something that long,” Jones teased. “It’s only 35 pages. And it’s detailed quite simply with instructive illustrations.”

The Orange County resident credits his knowledge of automotive care to his childhood mentor “Mr. Moses.”
“I was about 13-years-old, when he found me hanging out on the corner in (New Orleans) Louisiana,” said Jones. “He asked me: are you going to just stand here all day?” After that, I got in his pick up truck, and he took me down to his auto-detailing shop, where I learned the business.”

The two remained close until Hurricane Katrina severed their connection in 2005. Jones had already moved to California (in 1989), gotten married, and embarked on his own auto detailing business some 15 years prior. Immediately after the hurricane hit, Jones called his old friend but could not reach him.

“He [Mr. Moses] was alive then. So, I don’t want to say that he isn’t anymore. He might read this story one day and say ‘Hey, I’m not dead.’ I sure do hope that’s the case.”
Now a resident of Stanton with his wife and business partner Marva, Jones endeavors to impart the knowledge he received from his mentor to a wide range of minority youth. His most recent effort, an auto detailing seminar with participants in a Los Angeles Urban League youth program, was the start of a partnership he hopes will grow exponentially.

“I’ve been trying to reach the different community centers in Los Angeles with this [business in a bucket],” said Jones. The process has been slow going. But I’m not deterred. 1. When cleaning the inside of your car, be sure to open the middle Console and clean in there too If you don't it will get full fast, and hey you might just find that receipt you were looking for my friend oder my business in a bucket of car care product's and said that he found a old ring as he was washing his car, let' say the wife is now happy with him LOL

2. When transporting liquids (i.e.; water, beverages, paint, baby bottles, coffee, etc…) make sure there are no leaks and lids are tight to prevent spills that cause stains on your carpets

3. Only allow children to use water based markers in vehicle as they are less likely to cause permanent marks on interior, becuse you don't won't marks on your detail interior.

4. When cleaning your carpets make sure car doors are open for fresh air to circulate you don't thank so ask my firend Bob who said he did not need all the door open when detailing his car he is doing better now, LOL

5. When exiting your car, make sure valuables are out of sight to prevent burglary or vandalism to your vehicle i can't tell you how many times i have seen money on the seat and in the cup holder in the car next to me, don't do that folk's.
6. Place old towels on top of carpets to avoid staining if you are going to eat or drink in your vehicle you will save money and the long run by doing this, it will also make it easy for you the next time you detail or wash your car with our car care products.

7.if you have a sunroof or moon roof make sure you close it before washing your automobile i know someone who did not do that, all that money for the detailing clean up did not need to happen

8. If your leather and cloth seats don’t look attractive anymore and you don’t have the money to repair it, I recommend seat covers. You can pick them up at an auto parts store.

9. Check your windshield wipers every 3 months to be prepared for the rainy and/or snow season and don't forget to detail your car before the snow comes.

10. If you must park your automobile under a tree that drops sap, I recommend a car cover it will help you to keep you car pristine and you will not need to wash and wax your car as much.

I hope everyone is having a great day today.We have been working with the Los Angeles Urban League, Walter Pittman, Biz Institute For Youth Program. It is designed to introduce young people, ages 13-24 to the world of business. Business in a Bucket will be featured as one of many program to be used to help empower our communities.uesing our program Business in a Bucket, we were able to demonstrate how to purchase wholesale and then retail services and products. We had them participate in negotiating with their customers and understanding pricing to include expenses, not just profit margins. It was clear that their horizons were broadened, as a number of students, male/female, were eager to get started with Business in a Bucket. We left a bucket for the program director, Mr. Pittman, to give to the student with the most comprehensive one page easay on what they learned.here is what Mr. Pittman wrote about our visit: The response to Mr. Jones’ visit was positive. LeeAnn Sanchez, 18, was the proud winner of an essay challenge posed by Mr. Jones.

The essay highlights Mr. Jones’ visit and the information that she found to be the most vital in starting her business. LeeAnn wrote:“Motivation and commitment are two of the main points that he stressed. He stressed them because without them it will be difficult to maintain your business. Mr. Jones taught me that motivation doesn't have to only come from within, but from the people around you. He was motivated by a man whom he worked for. I am motivated by my mother. Mr. Jones also did a good job at expressing that commitment starts with you because, it is your business. It takes commitment to keep something going, to help believe on your vision, and carryout your mission.” - LeeAnn Sanchez, Student LAUL “Biz Institute”

LeeAnn took home Mr. Jones’ signature “Business in a Bucket,” a bucket filled with car detailing supplies and a how to manual full of helpful hints for detailing vehicles and time saving techniques. She plans to utilize the business to help support her financially as she prepares to enroll in UCLA this Septem .

We have been invited to return on the 24th to assist in judging the best written and thought out business plan from the class. Stanton man offers a business in a bucket
Kevin Jones wants to keep teens off the streets and teach them the value of owning their own business.
The business he wants them to start is their own auto detailing business and says that he can get them their start by purchasing his “Business in a Bucket.”
Jones credits a man he called Mister Moses who helped him out while he was growing up in New Orleans.
“He took me down to his auto detailing business and showed me what it was about and how I could learn a trade.”
Moses also taught Jones the value of proper bookkeeping and of keeping all his business receipts. It’s a lesson Jones hopes to pass on to other teens with his business, KJE Inc.
Jones, who lives in Stanton with his wife and business partner Marva, says that buy purchasing his kit, which includes everything from the right kind of car wash soap and wax, applicators and the proper kinds of washing and polishing rags, they can start their business the very next day.

Hi My Name is Kevin L. Jones,

My own story of growing up in New Orleans was filled with many challenges. My father left when I was 7 and my mother died in a car accident when I was 13 years of age. My grandmother was left to care for me and my siblings, five of us all together. Growing up in the projects there were not very many positive role models for me to embrace. There were a few who had a profound impact on who I am today. One older gentleman, Mr. Moses Bond, took me under his wing as a young child and taught me a few skills to enable me to not choose the bad street element and make extra money legally. In fact, that is who inspired our spokesperson Uncle Shookey. Though I've had some tough lessons in life, my wife and I were able to build a small auto detailing business and partnered with an auto car care product manufacturer, the dream is now a reality.
